Iowa and Nebraska Ew?

The highlight of the entire trip might have occurred in Nebraska. right? Who knew! And believe it or not it was not the painted silos we saw. Anyways,  driving down the interstate (I-80) and we came up to this enormous log cabin arch above the highway.  How could we NOT stop?!

It turns out, we had arrived at the "Great Platte River Road Archway", an undiscovered gem of the West.  We are providing the link here because everyone who drives across Nebraska should stop.

Outside the museum, an enormous buffalo. Oh yeah...
So when you enter the fabulous archway you get to what looks like the world's biggest escalator. It leads you up to the museum and you embark on a self-guided audio tour. The tour starts out with the Great Migration westwards, Oregon Trail etc, then leads on to exhibits about the Transcontinental Railway and finally the Transcontinental Highway.

The tour gives first-hand accounts and narrations that describe the scenes in each room.

In the final room in the archway museum, you get an incredible view of the highway below, with speed scanners showing the speeds of the passing cars.

A happy customer outside the Archway

Also outside the archway, was this cool recreated Native American lodge which smelled of burned cedar and sage. As well, they had a  corn maze you could play in. What's not to love?? All in all, a great stop through some of the flattest land on our longest day of the drive (11 hours).
